Construction on Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland began in early 1966, and opened March 18, 1967. Three months after Walt Disney passed away in December of 1966.

And for those that don’t know, Walt Disney’s apartment was right above the Fire House!

Note: During the off seasons, the firework show is on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 8:30 or 9:30, depending on the time of year. Back in the mid 80’s til the early 90’s, there was a half sunken boat in the water right before the Jungle Cruise unload area. This boat, the “Just Mist” (as in “we just mist the dock”) was a reminder to passengers of the Jungle Navigation Company of one of the most dangerous parts of the journey, The Skippers attempt to dock the boat…

The ceremony took place on July 17, 1995 which marked the 40th anniversary of Disneyland. Inside the capsule are various pins, name tags, maps, and art work celebrating the anniversary. The castle is not to be removed until the year 2035, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the park.
